Steve Demme

Steve Demme is the founder of Math-U-See. The author of the Math-U-See textbooks, he also made the instructional DVDs. He's been teaching for over 40 years for public, private, and Christian schools. Demme also runs a podcast called Building Faith Families, which helps solidify Christian families.
About a week ago I sent him a fan letter, expressing my appreciation for his good work. He wrote me back, and sent me an autographed copy of His Story, My Story, an account of his spiritual life:

Former MLB Players

On January 26, 2017, I went to a baseball clinic that was run by a bunch of former MLB players. It was a rigorous clinic, but I held my own with the other players. After practice, a couple of them gave speeches. After that, we were each given a new baseball for all the players to sign. Alas, I can't remember who was there. However, I decided to look at some of the autographs and try to determine who made them. I did some research, and am pretty confident that it was signed by Tony Gwynn Jr. (son of the Hall of Famer), Tim Stauffer (who pitched 201 games from 2005 through 2015), and Chris Young (a former pitcher who is now GM of the Texas Rangers). Even better, my mom found some information on the clinic and told me that it was also run by Phil Ouellette, Tim Leary, Raul Gonzalez, Mike Gallo, and Jim Lentine.

Not a great picture.

Phil Wickham And Colton Dixon

In 2016, we went to a concert that featured many Christian singers, including Matt Maher, Jordan Feliz, Phil Wickham, Andy Mineo, and Colton Dixon. After the concert we tried to get our programs signed. The line for Matt Maher was much too long, Jordan Feliz wasn't ready to sign yet (he was the last act), and we didn't care much for Andy Mineo, but we were able to get Phil Wickham and Colton Dixon to sign. I don't remember much about Phil Wickham, but I remember our experience with Colton Dixon vividly. He was wearing thick glasses and a heavy coat. He smiled a lot but didn't say a word to us (or anyone else, as far as I can remember). That struck me as weird; based on his music I thought he would have been a little more extraverted. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the program since we moved to Texas in 2017. It's probably lost forever.

Jon Gray

On January 28, the Texas Rangers held a signing event at Globe Life Field. One of the players signing was Jon Gray, a starting pitcher who went 7-7 with a 3.96 ERA in 2022. He signed a baseball card printed specially for the event:

Not an excellent picture, I will admit.
